HPOD wins CRPD Voting Rights Victory

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities issued a landmark decision on the voting rights of persons with intellectual disabilities. The Committee held that disenfranchisement of persons with disabilities is unacceptable under the CRPD, ordered Hungary to repeal its Basic Law and voting legislation, and required it to accommodate and support those voters.

The Bujdosó decision was the first one of the Committee to receive an amicus brief, which it cited at length, and was submitted by Executive Director Michael Stein. The historic Kiss decision by the European Court of Human Rights, also on voting, likewise cited an amicus brief submitted by Stein.
