As disability civil rights laws have led to cultural change, there has been increasing interest in disability inclusivity within religious contexts. Changes to religious and cultural ritual pose unique challenges. Attempts at innovative ritual often fall flat or feel inauthentic. Innovative rituals intended to respect the human dignity of people with disabilities can end up inadvertently entrenching a dehumanizing status quo. Often, the missing element is the perspectives of people with disabilities themselves.
Join us for a presentation from Rabbi Ruti Regan on the challenges and practicalities of bringing disabled perspectives into the work of ritual change.
